Why choose resin

A Driveway That Changes How Your Home Looks

A professionally installed resin driveway provides a seamless natural-stone finish with the durability required for everyday use — designed specifically around your property rather than an off-the-shelf finish.

Why Andy Harragan & Sons

What's Underneath Matters As Much As What's On Top

A resin surface can look excellent on installation day. The real test is how well it performs afterwards — which is why we focus on the complete installation.

Proper preparation

We inspect the existing driveway, base, levels and drainage before recommending what needs doing. If the foundations aren't suitable, we'll tell you — we don't cover over problems.

Experienced installation

Resin surfacing requires careful mixing, timing and hand-finishing. Our experienced team achieves a consistent finish across the whole driveway.

Quality materials

We use quality natural aggregates and premium UV-stable resin systems from established industry suppliers such as The Resin Mill.

Andy remains hands-on

Andy Harragan stays directly involved with the business and its projects, rather than operating purely as a sales company.

One team throughout

You deal with the same family business from quotation through to installation. No unnecessary sales layers, no confusing handovers.

Qualified expertise

A BSc Honours Degree in Landscape Management and RHS qualifications back 30+ years of practical, hands-on experience.

Resin bound or resin bonded?

We'll Recommend the Right System

You don't need to know the answer before calling us — we'll advise after seeing your property.

Resin Bound

Natural aggregate and resin are mixed together, then hand-trowelled onto the prepared base — the smooth, seamless surface most homeowners associate with a modern resin driveway. Over a suitable permeable base, water drains through the complete system.

Best for: driveways · patios · paths · courtyards · garden areas

Resin Bonded

Resin is applied to the base and aggregate scattered over the surface, producing a rougher, more textured appearance with greater surface grip and a traditional stone look.

Best for: textured driveways · footpaths · sloping areas

Find a colour that works

A Finish That Complements Your Home

Choose from a wide selection of natural aggregate blends — from contemporary silver, grey and charcoal to warmer golden, bronze and traditional stone tones.

We'll help you consider the colour of your brickwork, render, roof, walls, edging and landscaping — and show finished installations wherever possible, not just loose aggregate samples.

Questions answered

Resin Driveway Questions

How much does a resin driveway cost in Chelmsford?

There isn’t one meaningful price per square metre that applies to every driveway. The final price depends on size, the condition of the existing base, excavation, drainage, access, edging, groundworks, aggregate choice and complexity. A cheap quotation that assumes little preparation can be very different from one for rebuilding the driveway correctly — so we inspect the property and provide a clear written quotation.

Can resin be laid over an existing driveway?

Sometimes. Stable concrete or tarmac may provide a suitable base following the appropriate preparation. If the existing surface is moving, badly cracked or otherwise unsuitable, simply covering it with resin is unlikely to solve the underlying problem. We assess the base before recommending the installation.

Do I need planning permission for a resin driveway?

Often no — but it depends on how the driveway is constructed and the property. Front-garden rules generally allow new or replacement driveways without planning permission where permeable surfacing is used, or rainfall is directed to a suitable permeable area. Different requirements can apply to impermeable surfaces over 5m², listed properties and dropped kerbs. We discuss drainage at the survey; planning responsibility remains with the owner.

Is a resin bound driveway permeable?

A correctly installed resin bound surface contains voids that allow water through the resin-bound layer. For it to work as a genuinely permeable system the construction underneath also needs to drain appropriately — the complete build-up matters, not just the resin surface.

How long does a resin driveway last?

There isn’t a single responsible lifespan for every driveway. Longevity depends on the quality of preparation, condition of the base, materials, installation, drainage, vehicle loading and maintenance. A properly prepared and professionally installed surface should provide many years of use.

Will a resin driveway fade or grow weeds?

We use UV-stable resin systems designed to resist the yellowing associated with non-UV-stable binders. A properly prepared surface also greatly limits weeds — though seeds can land on any external surface, which is why occasional sweeping and cleaning is recommended.
