Resin

Our Resin Surfacing Services

Resin surfacing is our founding trade. We install resin bound and resin bonded systems on driveways, paths, patios and commercial areas throughout Essex, mixing UV-stable resins with natural aggregates on site for a seamless finish that stands up to daily traffic and British weather.

Because a resin bound surface is porous, rainwater soaks straight through it rather than pooling or running onto the highway — which is why so many Essex homeowners can resurface a front garden without a planning application. We specify the correct depth and aggregate blend for every site we survey.

Overview

Resin Surfacing Explained

Two systems, two finishes: resin bound is trowelled smooth and fully permeable, while resin bonded scatters aggregate over a resin film for a high-grip textured surface. We recommend the right system once we have seen how your space drains and how it is used.

Resin Bound Surfacing

Resin bound surfacing is a smooth, permeable paving solution created by mixing natural aggregate stones with high-quality clear resin before installation. Ideal for resin bound driveways, paths and patios, it is durable, SUDS compliant and allows water to drain through the surface.

Resin Bonded Surfacing

Resin bonded surfacing is a high-grip decorative system where natural aggregates are scattered onto a resin layer to create a textured finish. Popular for resin bonded driveways and footpaths, it provides excellent slip resistance and a natural stone appearance.

Durable & Low Maintenance

Both resin bound and resin bonded surfaces are designed for durability and minimal maintenance. Occasional sweeping or power washing keeps the surface clean and prevents moss or debris buildup.

Professional Resin Installation

Andy Harragan & Sons specialises in professional resin bound and resin bonded surfacing using high-quality clear resin binders from trusted manufacturers such as Geoveko.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission for a resin bound driveway?

Usually not. Resin bound surfacing is porous, so it counts as permeable paving under the permitted development rules for front gardens — rainwater drains through the surface instead of running off it. Non-permeable finishes over five square metres at the front of a house need drainage provision instead, and we advise on all of this during the site survey.

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

Resin bound mixes the stone through the resin before it is trowelled flat, giving a smooth, porous surface ideal for driveways and patios. Resin bonded scatters stone over a layer of resin, giving a rougher, high-grip texture that is not permeable — a good choice for slopes and footpaths.

How soon can I walk or drive on a new resin surface?

Curing depends on temperature and humidity, but as a rule the surface takes foot traffic within around twenty-four hours and vehicles within around seventy-two. We confirm exact timings for your installation before we leave site.

Will the colour of a resin driveway fade in the sun?

The UV-stable resins we use are formulated not to yellow, and natural aggregate holds its colour permanently — so the blend you choose stays true even on a south-facing drive.

How do I maintain a resin bound driveway?

An occasional sweep and a rinse with a hose or light pressure wash is all it needs. Because there are no joints there is nowhere for weeds to root; anything that appears is surface-seeded and pulls away easily.
