Rubber Crumb
Wet-pour rubber crumb is the surface beneath the country's playgrounds for one reason: it cushions falls. We design and install it for schools, nurseries, parks and family gardens across Essex and beyond, sizing the shock-absorbing layer to the fall height of the equipment above it.
Safety surfacing is judgement as much as installation — thickness, edge detail and drainage all have to suit the space and the children using it. We specify each area to the critical fall height its equipment demands rather than laying one blanket depth everywhere.

Experience
The team has installed wet-pour surfacing for schools, nurseries and homeowners alike, working around term dates and handing play areas back inspected and ready for use.
Quality
Recycled rubber crumb goes down in a two-layer build-up — a shock-absorbing base below, a dense coloured wearing course above — bound with resins that keep the surface resilient season after season.
Service
Marking out, edging, mixing and trowelling all happen on site by our own installers, with colour zones and simple graphics laid into the surface as it goes down.
Overview
Beneath the bright colours, wet-pour rubber is an engineered two-layer system: a cushioning base of recycled rubber sized to the fall height above it, and a hard-wearing coloured course that takes the footfall and the weather.
Rubber crumb surfacing provides a soft, cushioned surface that absorbs impact from falls, making it ideal for playgrounds and play areas. It meets critical fall height safety standards to protect children and users.
Designed to withstand heavy use and all weather conditions, rubber crumb surfaces are UV-stable, frost-resistant and maintain their performance year after year with minimal maintenance.
Available in a wide range of colours, rubber crumb surfacing can be used to create patterns, zones and themed designs. Perfect for creating engaging, colourful play and sports areas.
Made from recycled tyres, rubber crumb surfacing is an environmentally friendly choice. It repurposes waste materials into a high-performance, long-lasting safety surface.
Create safe, colourful play spaces with rubber crumb safety surfacing. Impact-absorbing and available in vibrant colours, it is the ideal surface for residential gardens, public playgrounds and nursery outdoor areas.
Rubber crumb surfacing provides a durable, high-grip surface for sports courts, multi-use games areas (MUGAs) and fitness zones. Its shock-absorbing properties reduce the risk of injury during physical activity.
Keep children safe with professionally installed rubber crumb safety surfacing for school playgrounds, nursery gardens and outdoor learning areas. Compliant with safety standards and built to handle heavy daily use.
Rubber crumb surfacing is ideal for public parks, leisure centres, care homes and commercial recreational areas. It provides a safe, attractive and low-maintenance surface for high-traffic environments.

Testimonials
“Andy Harragan and Sons replaced my block paving drive with resin and fully replaced the patio, sleepers and lawn in my back garden. From the initial visit through to completion, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Andy and his team. Professional, polite, clean and nothing was too much trouble. I have recommended Andy to family and friends (and passers by admiring my drive!)”

FAQ
It is the maximum height a child could fall from the equipment onto the surface without serious risk of head injury. That height determines how thick the shock-absorbing layer must be — taller equipment needs deeper wet pour — and we specify each area of surfacing accordingly.
Yes — wet-pour rubber is the standard surface for school and nursery play areas precisely because it is impact-absorbing, slip-resistant and free of loose parts. We schedule installations around term dates and hand areas back ready for use.
The wearing course comes in a wide colour range and is laid wet, so zones, paths, numbers and simple graphics can be built into the surface itself rather than painted on afterwards.
On a sound base the surface performs for many years of daily use. When the top eventually weathers, it can often be recapped with a fresh wearing course over the existing shock pad rather than being fully replaced.
The system is porous: rain drains through both layers into the base beneath, so puddles do not form and the area is usable again soon after wet weather — one of the reasons it suits year-round school use.
